About this role
Lead sophisticated commercial contracting for an AI-focused company, with primary responsibility for data licensing, inbound technology transactions, and agreements that support a rapidly scaling business.
Role OverviewThis role offers the opportunity to deepen expertise in new business areas, handle increasingly complex matters, and broaden responsibility as the business and its commercial relationships grow. You will work closely with internal stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly asynchronous environment and develop a strong understanding of products, business model, technical environment, and data flows.
Key Responsibilities- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, particularly data licensing, marketing, and inbound technology agreements.
- Support vendor agreements, partnership agreements, statements of work, nondisclosure agreements, and other commercial matters.
- Translate legal and contractual risk into clear, business-focused recommendations for internal teams.
- Address novel legal and commercial questions with limited precedent, using sound judgment to determine when to decide and when to escalate.
- Create and improve contract templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and self-service resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve legal operations through AI-enabled contract review, intake, automation, and knowledge management.
- Help establish scalable legal processes as commercial relationships become more complex.
- Juris Doctor and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Strong academic credentials and foundational legal training.
- Significant experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated commercial and technology agreements involving data, software, technology, or intellectual property.
- Strong commercial contracting, data licensing, contract negotiation, legal judgment, and technology transactions experience.
- Ability to distinguish theoretical legal risk from risk that materially affects the business.
- Ability to rapidly understand technical products, business models, and unfamiliar legal areas.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, clarity, precision, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and independent ownership.
- Experience at a top-tier law firm focused on technology transactions is preferred.
- Full-time remote position, with the option to work from the San Francisco office.
Annual compensation ranges from $350, 000 to $420, 000.
