About this role

Role Overview

Turn dimensioned engineering drawings into precise, reproducible 3D solid models that support AI training work. You will apply CAD, computational geometry, and Python to build mechanical components with complex curved geometry, export validated STEP files, and ensure every model meets strict geometric and physical requirements.

This is a mechanical CAD and geometry role, not a hardware support or electronics position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings and schematics.
  • Translate 2D engineering drawings into accurate 3D mechanical models.
  • Break complex components into appropriate geometric features.
  • Model curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean operations.
  • Use Python to generate or automate CAD geometry.
  • Export valid, watertight solid models in STEP and similar formats.
  • Validate model dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties.
  • Identify and resolve subtle differences between expected and generated geometry.
  • Create reproducible solutions that run in clean technical environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD or computational geometry.
  • Ability to interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Strong spatial reasoning, geometric precision, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience validating or troubleshooting CAD models.
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, build123d, CadQuery, FreeCAD, OpenCascade, Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks, trimesh, or comparable CAD and geometry software is useful. No particular tool is required when skills transfer.
  • Formal education and a set number of professional years are not required.

Mechanical designers, CAD specialists, engineers, researchers, makers, and independent technical experts with demonstrable relevant skills are encouraged to apply.

Work Terms

  • Independent contractor engagement.
  • Fully remote and open globally.
  • Approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule, choose your working hours and days, including weekends if preferred.
  • Selected candidates should be ready to begin immediately and complete their first task within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.

Compensation

  • Advertised compensation is $50 to $100 per hour.
  • Payment is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications.
  • Task completion time varies by experience and workflow, and minimum submission requirements apply.

Application Process

  • Submit an application and answer screening questions.
  • Complete an approximately 30-minute AI interview.
  • Proceed through hiring manager review.
