Role Overview
Apply mechanical design and CAD expertise to help train next-generation AI systems for complex engineering work. Your real-world input will help AI systems interpret, solve, and explain challenges involving GD&T, tolerance stack-up, design for manufacturability, and drawing release. No prior AI experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and solve advanced mechanical design and CAD problems involving part and assembly design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and design for manufacturability.
- Review AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality.
- Use practical engineering judgment for production design scenarios and theoretical questions.
- Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical design issues using tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5, and design-for-manufacturability and assembly reviews.
- Provide domain expertise and documented feedback to improve AI reasoning and performance in mechanical design and CAD.
- Communicate clear written and verbal explanations and collaborate remotely with distributed experts and project participants.
Qualifications
- MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or Industrial Design. CSWP or CSWE certification is a plus.
- At least 5 years of production design experience, including personally owning designs through GD&T, tolerance stacks, design for manufacturability, and drawing release.
- Expertise in parametric CAD modeling, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design-for-manufacturability and assembly principles.
- Demonstrated ability to carry a design from concept through detail drawings, ECR/ECN, and production release.
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5, ASME B89 dimensional metrology, and manufacturing constraints for machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and casting.
- Professional English proficiency and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, PLM/PDM systems, or CAM/CNC programming is a plus.
- Problem-authoring rigor is strongly preferred, such as service on an olympiad problem committee; textbook problem-set or solutions-manual authorship; item writing for an NCEES or academic qualifying-exam committee; standards committee service related to dimensioning and tolerancing; leadership or top placement in Formula SAE, Formula Student, ASME Student Design Competition, HPVC, MATE ROV, or a DARPA challenge; or an early-career fellowship or grant.
