Role Overview
Generate, refine, and validate parametric CAD models in FreeCAD to create high-quality engineering data used for training next-generation AI systems. This contractor role supports a leading-edge customer project focused on AI model training, producing reproducible CAD artifacts that reflect real-world mechanical design and manufacturing practices.
Key Responsibilities- Produce, edit, and validate precise parametric CAD models using FreeCAD with an emphasis on geometric accuracy and engineering best practices.
- Develop a diverse library of mechanical parts, assemblies, and features to support dataset creation and AI model training needs.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, GD&T, principles to ensure models meet real-world mechanical design standards.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of CAD data, identify and resolve discrepancies, and maintain detailed engineering documentation.
- Incorporate feedback and perform timely revisions to refine CAD deliverables in response to evolving project requirements.
- Optionally use Python scripting to automate modeling tasks or enhance parametrization for increased efficiency and dataset richness.
- Document modeling workflows and decision rationale to ensure reproducibility and transparency in the dataset creation process.
- Required skills: FreeCAD, Python (optional for scripting/automation), parametric modeling, CAD validation, mechanical design, industrial engineering, quality assurance, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, with practical experience using FreeCAD or equivalent parametric CAD software.
- Demonstrated expertise in parametric modeling and mechanical design, and proven ability to apply GD&T for real-world manufacturing scenarios.
- Familiarity with industrial engineering principles and common manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision and quality in deliverables.
- Experience preparing comprehensive engineering documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
