About this role
Role Overview
Contribute advanced parametric CAD expertise to a high-impact customer project that will help train next-generation AI systems. You will create, edit, and audit 3D mechanical models and assemblies, document design rationale, and optimize models for manufacturability. The work is remote and performed as a contractor, and no prior AI experience is required.
Key Responsibilities- Develop fully parametric 3D parts and assemblies from written briefs, using robust sketching, constraints, and organized feature trees.
- Edit and update existing parametric CAD models to reflect changing requirements and to ensure manufacturability and specification compliance.
- Audit CAD models for dimensional accuracy, correct tolerance application, and alignment with design intent, and call out gaps or deviations.
- Provide clear, consistent technical documentation and explain design decisions to support AI model training and project collaboration.
- Apply manufacturing process knowledge such as injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and casting or forging to optimize designs for production.
- Perform assembly-level modeling, not limited to single-part work, and support reverse engineering tasks including scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion.
- Where applicable, employ CAD automation or scripting (for example Python, iLogic, NX Open, VBA) to standardize and accelerate workflows.
- Strong hands-on experience with 3D parametric CAD platforms; ideal candidates have FreeCAD experience, and strong proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor is acceptable.
- Applied experience using GD&T, ASME Y14.5 or equivalent.
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) expertise across at least two to three manufacturing processes relevant to the project scope.
- Experience with mechanical assembly modeling and proven ability to deliver assembly-level CAD work.
- Reverse engineering experience such as scan-to-CAD or point cloud conversion is highly valued.
- Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting (Python, iLogic, NX Open, VBA) is a strong plus.
- Attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience levels: at least 4 years of applied experience for model editing tasks, and 10 or more years for complex model creation assignments.
- Engagement type: Contractor.
- Location: Remote.
- Primary project focus: parametric modeling workflows in FreeCAD, with strong transferable experience from Autodesk Fusion 360 valued.
- Deliverables include high-quality CAD models, documentation of design rationale, and model audits to support AI training.
- Pay range: $40.00 to $100.00 per hour.
- No specific prior AI experience required, domain CAD and manufacturing expertise are the primary qualification.
- Applicants must be able to contract as independent contractors and work remotely.
