Role Overview
Deliver expert parametric CAD work using Autodesk Fusion 360 and related tools to create, edit, audit, and document mechanical parts and assemblies. Your designs will be used both for real-world manufacturability and to provide high-quality training data that helps next-generation AI systems learn design reasoning. No prior AI experience is required, your domain expertise is the priority.
Key Responsibilities- Develop fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies from detailed written briefs, using robust sketching, constraints, and well-structured feature trees.
- Edit and update existing parametric CAD models to reflect changing requirements, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with specifications.
- Audit and review CAD models for dimensional accuracy, correct tolerance application, and alignment with design intent, and clearly identify gaps or deviations.
- Optimize designs for production using deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and casting or forging.
- Support AI model training by delivering consistent, high-quality CAD data and clear documentation of design decisions and rationale.
- Perform reverse engineering tasks as needed, including scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion workflows.
- Communicate technical feedback and design rationale clearly, both in writing and verbally, to support collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Proven hands-on experience with parametric CAD platforms. Ideal background includes FreeCAD experience, with strong proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor acceptable.
- Applied GD&T experience, familiarity with ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards.
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) expertise across at least two to three of the following: injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, forging.
- Experience with assembly-level modeling, not only single-part work.
- Reverse engineering experience, such as scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion, highly valued.
- Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting is a strong plus, examples include Python, iLogic, NX Open, or VBA.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Experience expectations: 4 or more years of applied experience for model editing tasks, 10 or more years for complex model creation assignments.
