Help improve advanced AI systems by applying practical software engineering expertise to the technical content, prompts, evaluations, and training materials that shape how models reason and perform.
Role OverviewThis remote, part-time independent contractor role supports a customer project focused on developing and refining AI systems. Prior AI experience is not required, your software engineering domain knowledge is the core qualification.
Key Responsibilities- Review, analyze, and improve AI-generated technical content for clarity, accuracy, completeness, and alignment with software engineering best practices.
- Create, refine, and evaluate prompts and instructions that guide AI models to produce high-quality technical deliverables.
- Assess AI model outputs against rubrics and provide detailed feedback on quality, correctness, and completeness.
- Draft and edit technical documentation, architecture plans, RFCs, design specifications, and engineering proposals for AI training use.
- Conduct independent research and fact-checking to validate technical claims and ensure content is data-driven and accurate.
- Interpret and annotate data for nuanced software engineering evaluation and labeling tasks.
- Collaborate asynchronously with project leads and subject-matter experts while meeting established deliverable guidelines.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, such as Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect.
- Experience authoring or reviewing technical artifacts, including documentation, architecture documents, design specifications, RFCs, engineering proposals, postmortems, technical blogs, or code reviews.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, logical problem-solving, attention to detail, and quality assurance skills.
- Excellent written communication, including professional or technical writing and editing.
- Experience with prompt authoring and refinement, AI output evaluation, content review, data interpretation, data annotation, rubric-based evaluation, fact-checking, RLHF, technical editing, or prompt engineering is relevant.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools, such as code assistants or automated documentation generators, is helpful but not required.
- Advanced degrees, including a Master''s, JD, MBA, or PhD, and credentials from highly selective universities or comparable academic programs are highly regarded.
