Senior Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Build realistic, production-grade cloud infrastructure environments that help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. You will translate senior backend and DevOps expertise into reproducible reinforcement learning scenarios that assess how models design, deploy, troubleshoot, secure, scale, and recover cloud systems. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement realistic cloud infrastructure environments for evaluating systems design, deployment, and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Create reproducible scenarios involving distributed systems, networking, identity and access management, message queues, durable storage, observability, rolling deployments, and disaster recovery.
• Develop deterministic validation tests and golden reference solutions to support reliable, accurate environment evaluation.
• Create intentionally defective variants and failure scenarios to test model responses and recovery strategies.
• Document architecture, edge cases, and operational flows so environments remain clear and reproducible.
• Work with technical leads and project participants to refine environment specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Apply DevOps and infrastructure automation practices to deliver scalable, secure, maintainable cloud evaluation environments.

Qualifications

• Strong backend programming expertise in one or more of C++, Python, Rust, Go, Java, or JavaScript.
• Practical experience with DevOps, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
• Demonstrated ability to architect, scale, and secure distributed systems in production-grade environments.
• Deep understanding of networking, identity and access management, queues, durable storage, and disaster recovery.

Work Terms

• Remote independent contractor engagement.
• Expected commitment of 20 hours per week.
• Roles are typically filled within 48 hours, and candidates should be prepared to begin promptly.
• Minimum weekly task-submission requirements apply.

Compensation

• Hourly rate range of $50 to $100.
• Payment is output-based and issued for tasks that meet project specifications. Time required per task may vary based on experience and workflow.
