Role Overview
Shape evaluation tasks for AI systems handling patent prosecution, licensing, IP enforcement, and related high-stakes intellectual property work. You will create realistic scenarios calibrated to the technical complexity, commercial stakes, and procedural requirements of major patent portfolios, licensing programs, and IP disputes.
The work supports a U.S. standards track, covering 35 U.S.C., the MPEP, and USPTO procedure, and an international standards track, covering the European Patent Convention, PCT, and WIPO treaties. Professionals qualified in either track, or both, may apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop IP scenarios involving patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, trademark and copyright disputes, licensing, technology transfer, and freedom-to-operate analysis.
- Create tasks spanning patent prosecution, IP litigation and enforcement, trademark and copyright practice, licensing and technology transfer, and freedom-to-operate review.
- Design scenarios using patent search platforms such as PatSnap, Innography, and USPTO PatFT; docketing and portfolio-management systems such as Anaqua and CPA Global; and claim-charting tools used in major IP practices.
- Apply patentability analysis, claim construction, and freedom-to-operate methodologies to the applicable legal framework, including 35 U.S.C., the MPEP, and Federal Circuit precedent for the U.S. track, or the EPC, PCT, and WIPO treaties for the international track.
- Produce reference patent applications, office action responses, licensing agreements, and litigation memoranda.
- Write scoring rubrics that identify sound senior-level IP judgment rather than generic law-school or bar-exam recall.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience as an IP attorney or patent agent at a major IP firm or corporate IP department, such as Fish & Richardson, Finnegan, Wilson Sonsini, or as in-house IP counsel at a technology or pharmaceutical company.
- Direct responsibility for patent prosecution portfolios, licensing negotiations, or IP litigation matters.
- Fluency with IP tools and methodologies, along with a practical understanding of USPTO and EPO procedure and international treaty systems.
- A recognized professional credential is strongly preferred, including a JD with bar admission and USPTO patent bar registration, or an international equivalent such as European Patent Attorney.
- A technical or STEM background and prior experience authoring rubrics or training materials are advantageous.
Work Terms
- Remote hourly engagement.
Compensation
- $90 to $100 per hour.
