Senior FreeCAD Engineer for AI Model Training

Design and validate detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD, apply mechanical engineering best practices to produce manufacturable assemblies and technical drawings, and contribute high-quality domain expertise that will be used to train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. This is a remote contractor role focused on CAD modeling, assembly design, GD&T, DFM, CAD automation, and engineering quality assurance. No prior experience in AI is required.

• Create, modify, and validate detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD to meet specified project requirements.
• Develop and optimize mechanical assemblies, including component integration and fit/function considerations.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and Design for Manufacturing principles to ensure manufacturability and product quality.
• Produce clear, precise technical drawings and documentation for engineering review and downstream manufacturing or assembly processes.
• Perform engineering QA reviews of CAD models and drawings to identify, document, and help resolve issues.
• Use Python scripting for CAD automation to streamline repetitive or complex modeling tasks, highly preferred but not mandatory.
• Provide constructive feedback on model accuracy, design intent, and process improvements to project stakeholders.
• Contribute domain knowledge and high-quality real-world input that helps train and evaluate AI models.

• 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial engineering, or a related field with a focus on parametric CAD modeling.
• Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD or equivalent parametric CAD platforms.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, including GD&T and DFM best practices.
• Proven ability to produce comprehensive technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
• Experience conducting engineering QA and verifying model integrity and compliance with specifications.
• Familiarity with CAD automation and Python scripting is highly preferred.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills appropriate for remote, project-based collaboration.

Role type: Contractor, remote. Engagement is to contribute expertise to a dynamic customer project. No prior AI experience is required; domain expertise and CAD skills are the priority.

Hourly rate: $40.00 to $100.00 per hour.
