About this role

Role Overview

Design production-ready mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable parametric CAD tools, and deliver the CAD data, drawings, and documentation that will be used to train and validate next-generation AI systems. This contractor role focuses on precision mechanical design for manufacturability across multiple processes, with an emphasis on clear engineering documentation and CAD validation. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and revise detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or similar software.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering drawings suitable for manufacturing handoff, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Design components with manufacturability in mind for processes such as sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
  • Perform CAD validation and quality assurance checks to confirm model accuracy and production readiness.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and step-by-step assembly instructions to serve as reference material.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to improve CAD models and supporting deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years'' experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
  • Proven proficiency in FreeCAD or a similar parametric CAD platform, including advanced modeling, assemblies, and drawing generation.
  • Hands-on experience and design knowledge for sheet metal, CNC, plastics, and injection molding processes.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing best practices.
  • Track record of producing production-grade CAD models and validating them against real-world manufacturability criteria.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type, independent contractor.
  • Location, remote.
Compensation
  • Pay range, $40.00 to $100.00 per hour.
Eligibility
  • No prior AI experience required; domain expertise in mechanical design is the primary qualification.
  • Candidates must be able to work as independent contractors and provide their own equipment and software environment suitable for FreeCAD or equivalent CAD work.
Application
