About this role

Role Overview

Design and document production-ready mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD tools, producing precise engineering drawings and technical documentation that will be used to train next-generation AI systems. This remote contractor role focuses on detailed Design for Manufacturing work across multiple processes, and does not require prior AI experience; your domain expertise in mechanical design is the primary requirement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable software.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups, suitable for manufacturing handoff.
  • Design components and assemblies for a range of manufacturing processes, including sheet metal, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
  • Perform CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to confirm model accuracy and production readiness.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and step-by-step assembly instructions to serve as reference material for AI model training.
  • Incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to revise CAD models and supporting documentation.
  • Apply domain knowledge to produce high-quality, real-world examples that help shape how AI systems learn and reason about mechanical design.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD software for advanced modeling, assembly creation, and drawing generation.
  • Hands-on experience with design considerations for sheet metal, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing best practices.
  • Proven ability to produce production-grade CAD models and validate them against real-world manufacturability criteria.
  • Experience with CAD validation and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and collaboration.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type: Independent contractor.
  • Location: Remote.
Compensation
  • Pay rate: $40.00 to $100.00 per hour.
Eligibility
  • No prior AI experience required; candidates must be able to work as independent contractors and provide the tools and environment needed to complete remote CAD design work.
