Role Overview

Provide high-level domain judgment as an established Professor or Principal Investigator in physics to adjudicate contested arguments, verify technical claims, and shape how next-generation AI systems learn and reason. This remote contractor role contributes peer-level, defensible written evaluations and technical verifications that inform model training and evaluation. No prior AI experience is required; domain expertise is the core requirement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adjudicate and render expert judgment on contested or competing physics arguments, solutions, and interpretations within your subfield.
  • Compare alternative approaches to the same problem, specifying which is superior, under which assumptions, and in which parameter regimes.
  • Identify and articulate meta-level criteria for evaluating robustness and validity of competing work, including key assumptions and breaking points of approximations.
  • Provide calibrated, authoritative assessments while transparently acknowledging genuine uncertainty or open questions.
  • Draft defensible written evaluations suitable for review by fellow senior physicists, ensuring clarity and scholarly rigor.
  • Use technical tools such as LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter to verify or contrast technical claims as needed, and state clearly when a question is unresolved and what considerations matter.
Qualifications
  • PhD in physics with demonstrated expertise and scholarly impact in your specified subfield.
  • Current or former role as Associate Professor, Full Professor, Chair Professor, Principal Investigator, or Group Leader with independent research leadership experience.
  • Active research in one or more of the following areas: High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter, AMO or Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
  • 3 to 5 recent representative publications in your target subfield, with arXiv identifiers or DOI references.
  • Prior experience supervising PhD students or postdoctoral researchers, or equivalent leadership in industry research settings.
  • Proficiency with LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter, and willingness to indicate any gaps in experience with these tools.
  • Required skills: physics mastery, expert judgment in ambiguous cases, meta-level reasoning, research leadership, and the ability to produce defensible written articulation of nuanced positions.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, able to articulate nuanced and well-reasoned judgments for senior peers.

Compensation

Pay rate: $80 to $160 per hour.
