About this role

Role Overview

Shape how frontier AI models handle real legal work by applying senior legal judgment to task design, model evaluation, and quality standards. You will work closely with an AI research and program management team to turn practical legal expertise into clear instructions, trusted reference solutions, and rigorous benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review legal knowledge-work tasks and model outputs, identifying missing behaviors, weak reasoning, and responses that would not withstand professional legal scrutiny.
  • Write detailed instruction specifications and authoritative reference solutions for legal problems.
  • Create legal tasks that reflect real-world practice and define the standards for correct, high-quality work.
  • Design challenging evaluation sets and help develop legal-specific skills and tools with the research team.
  • Calibrate standards with researchers and adjacent-domain specialists, translating nuanced legal judgment into explicit, teachable criteria.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; graduation from a highly ranked law school is strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of substantive post-qualification legal practice at an established law firm, corporate legal department, regulatory body, or court. Internships and clerkships alone do not qualify.
  • Specialization in at least one substantive practice area, such as corporate and transactional law, litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory and compliance, intellectual property, employment and labor, or tax.
  • Senior-level progression, such as partner, of counsel, counsel, senior associate, senior in-house counsel, or general counsel, with ownership of legal matters.
  • Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
  • Hands-on professional use of large language models and the ability to distinguish sound legal reasoning from plausible but incorrect answers.
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to provide precise, well-structured feedback.

Work Terms

  • Full-time W-2 employment, with a reliable commitment of 40 hours per week for an initial 6-month engagement.
  • Hybrid position based in the Bay Area, California. You must be able to work on-site with the client team multiple days per week when required; this is not a remote role.
  • Applicants must already live in the Bay Area or relocate there at their own expense before the engagement begins. Relocation assistance is not provided.
  • Client-issued accounts and equipment will be provided, and the work will be performed in the client’s tools alongside its research teams.

Compensation

$100 to $150 per hour.

Eligibility

Qualified applicants are considered without regard to legally protected characteristics. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans throughout the application process.

Application Process

Apply through the opportunity’s application channel. If selected, employment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, and compliance are administered through the employer of record, with placement into the client’s internal team.
