Role Overview
This role defines standards, protocols, and evaluation frameworks for nuclear and radiological safety, nonproliferation, and safeguards, and contributes expert technical input used to train next-generation AI systems. The work shapes how models learn and reason about nuclear-security risks while preserving information safety and enabling legitimate scientific activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the scope and acceptance standards for evaluations of nuclear and radiological safety, nonproliferation, and security.
- Develop frameworks and methods for safe abstraction or redaction of sensitive or classified technical information.
- Establish escalation thresholds and formal protocols for identifying and handling nuclear security risks in research and operational contexts.
- Provide expert guidance and criteria for benchmarking nuclear and radiological risk assessments, ensuring effective nonproliferation safeguards.
- Review, refine, and validate technical guidelines related to nuclear and radiological safety for use in advanced-model training.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to align safety standards with national and global security interests, while enabling legitimate scientific progress.
- Document best practices and decision rationales for information security, compliance, and safe handling of nuclear-domain material.
- Apply subject-matter expertise to generate high-quality, real-world input used to train and evaluate AI systems, no prior AI experience required.
Qualifications
- Required skills: nuclear physics, radiological safety, nonproliferation, safeguards.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in nuclear physics, radiological safety, nonproliferation, or nuclear safeguards, with senior contributors ideally in the 8 to 20 year range.
- Advanced degree, professional certification, or equivalent operational experience in nuclear or radiological domains.
- Proven experience working with government agencies, national laboratories, regulatory bodies, or academic research programs focused on nuclear security or policy.
- Thorough understanding of nonproliferation frameworks, international safeguards, and weapons-relevant controls.
- Established credibility in the nuclear or radiological safety community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical topics for diverse audiences.
- Experience contributing to or overseeing security evaluations, compliance protocols, or risk assessments in sensitive technical environments.

Compensation
