Radiological Source Security Specialist for AI Red-Teaming

Role Overview

Help test frontier AI systems’ ability to distinguish legitimate radiological safety questions from requests with genuine misuse potential. You will apply practical source-security expertise to create realistic edge cases, assess model decisions against a defined policy standard, and explain what a correct technical response should contain.

Key Responsibilities

• Create challenging, single-turn prompts in radiological source security and label them as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.
• Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard and determine whether each response was handled correctly.
• Develop reference answers that show the appropriate response and the technical reasoning behind it.
• Write clear rationales that non-specialists can understand.

Qualifications

This role is suited to practitioners who understand the security and vulnerability risks associated with Category 1 and 2 radioactive sources, including how sources may be stolen, shielded, or moved. Relevant experience may include:

• Security or vulnerability assessments for licensed facilities holding Category 1 and 2 sources.
• Physical protection design or review, including detection, delay, assessment, response, and insider-threat considerations.
• Source recovery, consolidation, or security-upgrade programs involving disused or orphan sources.
• Regulatory security inspection or compliance work under 10 CFR 37 or national equivalents.
• Transport security for radioactive material, including routing, escorts, tracking, and chain of custody.

Red-teaming experience is preferred. Strong technical writing, published research, or expert-witness experience is valuable. Include a writing sample or link with your application.

Work Terms

This is a remote, per-task independent contractor engagement. The work involves sustained reading and writing about misuse scenarios in your field. You will receive advance briefing on this aspect of the work and may pause or step away at any time without penalty.

Compensation

Compensation is $65 to $75 per task.
