About this role

Role Overview

Merchandise Planners apply hands-on merchandising and planning expertise to evaluate AI-generated retail content and help improve models that simulate merchandise planning, inventory optimization, and promotional strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create expert-level training data based on your professional workflows and tools.
  • Review AI-generated responses for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with real-world merchandising practices.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback that improves AI understanding of demand forecasting, in-season reforecast, and inventory optimization.
  • Assess approaches to markdown optimization, hindsight analysis, and promotional campaign planning as represented in model outputs.
  • Work independently and document examples and explanations that capture real operational decision making.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in retail merchandising or merchandise planning.
  • Relevant job titles include Merchandise Planner, Senior Merchandise Planner, or equivalent retail roles.
  • Hands-on experience with merchandising workflows such as demand forecasting, in-season reforecasting, markdown optimization, hindsight analysis, promotional campaign planning, and inventory optimization.
  • Strong written communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work asynchronously with research teams.
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience required.

  • Fully remote with a flexible, asynchronous schedule and no minimum hour requirement.
  • Most contributors work approximately 5 620 hours per week while participating in an active project.
  • This is an ongoing, project-based arrangement that can be done alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.
Compensation
  • Up to $80/hr (depending on the project), paid on an hourly contract basis.
Project Availability
  • Placement on active projects depends on current project needs. Candidates may be considered for future projects as they become available.
Eligibility
  • F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be able to participate. Work with your Designated School Official to determine eligibility.
  • If your school requires a CPT course enrollment, this contract-based engagement may not meet that requirement.
  • STEM OPT is not supported for this work.
  • Consult the program help resources or your DSO for details on acceptable work authorizations.
Application Process
  • Create an account and complete the required profile information.
  • Complete identity verification as requested.
  • Enroll in and complete onboarding for relevant projects that match your expertise.
  • Begin assigned tasks and submit deliverables to receive hourly compensation.
