Role Overview
Help improve how AI systems understand and reason about mechanical engineering by applying your practical expertise to evaluate content, answer domain questions, and provide actionable feedback that increases accuracy and usefulness for engineering users. This is a flexible, part-time, remote role with ongoing opportunities to continue and expand involvement.
Key Responsibilities- Review and evaluate written content and AI-generated responses in mechanical engineering for technical accuracy and quality.
- Answer domain-specific questions with clear, well-reasoned explanations based on professional experience.
- Identify and recommend useful reference materials and authoritative sources relevant to mechanical engineering topics.
- Explain real-world engineering tools, workflows, and professional standards used in practice.
- Collaborate with a small group of subject-matter experts across related fields to refine guidance and assessments.
- Degree-qualified mechanical engineer, holding a Professional Engineer, PE, license in the United States.
- Minimum 2 years of professional mechanical engineering experience, preferably spanning multiple areas such as thermodynamics/HVAC, structural or mechanical design, and manufacturing.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, for example ASME.
- Hands-on experience with common engineering tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, AutoCAD, or similar packages.
- Experience writing technical documentation, specifications, or training materials is a plus.
- Comfortable using everyday AI tools, for example ChatGPT or similar systems.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Location: Remote, candidates must be based in the United States.
- Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week, part-time and flexible, with potential to continue and grow the engagement over time.
- Employment type: Hourly W-2 employment through an employer of record that handles payroll, benefits, and compliance, with placement on client teams to work on technical initiatives.
- Pay rate: $65 to $90 per hour.
- Must hold a valid US Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Must be legally based in the United States and able to accept W-2 employment.
- Must be able to commit reliably to the stated weekly hours.
