Role Overview
Category Managers apply retail pricing, markdown, and competitive analysis expertise to evaluate AI-generated content and produce expert-level training data that improves AI understanding of category management workflows. This is a project-based, hourly contract role performed fully remotely, suitable to combine with research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.
Key Responsibilities- Use hands-on experience with pricing strategy, markdown planning, and competitive analysis to review AI-generated responses for accuracy and relevance.
- Create and annotate expert-level training data that reflects real-world category management processes and tool usage.
- Provide detailed feedback to help AI models better represent pricing decisions, markdown optimization, promotional planning, and competitive pricing workflows.
- Work independently and asynchronously with research teams to meet project-specific instructions and quality standards.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in retail category management or buying, for example as a Category Manager or in an equivalent retail role.
- Hands-on experience with category management workflows, including tariff pricing and competitive pricing analysis.
- Experience with markdown optimization and hindsight analysis.
- Experience planning promotional campaigns.
- Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with research teams.
- No prior AI experience required.
- Part-time, hourly contract engagement, fully remote.
- Flexible, asynchronous schedule with no minimum hour requirement.
- Most contributors work approximately 5, 20 hours per week when participating in an active project.
- Placement on a given project depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.

Eligibility- F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible to participate. Consult your Designated School Official to confirm eligibility.
- If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this type of contract engagement may not meet that requirement.
- STEM OPT is not supported for this work.
