About this role

Role Overview

Utility technicians apply hands-on field experience with metering, distribution, and substation operations to evaluate AI-generated content and produce expert training data that reflects real-world utility workflows and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use your practical knowledge of field operations, metering systems, and utility infrastructure to review and rate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and relevance.
  • Provide written feedback and corrections that capture real procedures, safety practices, and equipment behavior encountered on the job.
  • Create expert-level examples and annotations based on tools and workflows you use in daily work.
  • Contribute to short, project-based tasks on an as-needed basis to improve AI understanding of utility technician activities.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in utility field operations, metering, or infrastructure maintenance.
  • Relevant roles include Meter Technician, Utility Technician, Field Service Technician, Distribution Technician, Substation Technician, or Line Technician.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of these workflows: meter installation and testing, distribution system maintenance, outage response, or substation operations.
  • Familiarity with utility systems and software such as AMI platforms, SCADA, Oracle MDM, IBM Maximo, or ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment.
  • No prior experience with AI required.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type: hourly contract work, not a traditional employee position.
  • Location: fully remote.
  • Schedule: flexible, asynchronous, with no minimum hour requirement.
  • Typical participation: most contributors work approximately 5, 20 hours per week when participating in an active project.
  • Project placement depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.
Compensation

Up to $85/hr (depending on the project)
