About this role

Role Overview

Perform live, public sets across San Francisco as part of a two-day outdoor microsessions project. This opportunity sponsors local solo musicians and small groups to play in high-foot-traffic public spaces, reach new audiences, and have a portion of their performance professionally filmed and recorded for marketing and music-education research purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a 1 to 2 hour live set during one scheduled slot on Thursday, August 6 or Friday, August 7.
  • Available time slots, choose one: LUNCH 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, AFTERNOON 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, or HAPPY HOUR 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Play at one of several outdoor, high-foot-traffic locations across San Francisco, including FiDi, the Marina, Dolores Park, Alamo Square, Pier 39, and Golden Gate Park. Final locations will be confirmed with each musician, however musicians must ultimately secure their desired locations and any associated logistics.
  • Wear event-provided apparel during the performance and display basic signage explaining microsessions.
  • Allow a small production crew to film and record for approximately 20 to 60 minutes during the set.
Recording Use and Permissions
  • All performances will be filmed and recorded. Recordings will be used for a launch film and social content that celebrate the artists and the city, and for education-focused research to help AI systems better understand music, for example recognizing instruments and genres, analyzing music theory elements such as keys and chord progressions, and documenting cultural roots of styles to enhance artist discoverability.
  • Performers participate with full consent and will sign a release that covers the licensing described here.
  • Prohibited uses include creating artificial music from this data, using the recordings to replace or compete with musicians, or using the recordings for purposes beyond the marketing and education research uses described.
Qualifications
  • Solo musicians or groups of 1 to 3 performers.
  • Proven live music performance skills and musical instrument proficiency.
  • Comfortable with public performance and outdoor settings.
  • Familiarity with event logistics coordination, including understanding permits and compliance requirements for public performance.
  • Self-promotion capability, for example able to share a portfolio or social media links as part of your application.
  • Strong time management, professionalism, and adaptability when performing in public spaces and around production crews.
  • Comfort with being filmed and recorded, and adherence to production guidelines during the set.
Work Terms
  • Event dates: Thursday, August 6 and Friday, August 7. Performers must be available on one of these dates.
  • Performance length: 1 to 2 hours per selected set, plus 20 to 60 minutes of filming during that set.
  • Number of performers sought: 20 to 40 musicians or small groups total.
  • Locations: multiple outdoor San Francisco sites, including FiDi, the Marina, Dolores Park, Alamo Square, Pier 39, and Golden Gate Park. Musicians will be informed of final locations prior to the event but must secure any necessary local permissions or logistics for their chosen site.
  • Artists will be provided event apparel and signage to display during performances.
Compensation
  • Pay range: $100 to $300 per hour.
  • Each performer is compensated, and compensation terms will be confirmed upon selection.
Eligibility
  • Local musicians available to perform in San Francisco on August 6 or August 7, 1 to 2 hour sets during the specified time slots.
  • All performers must consent to being filmed and recorded and sign a release covering the stated licensing and permitted uses.
  • Musicians must be willing and able to handle any permit or compliance requirements for their chosen performance location.
How to Apply

Submit your portfolio or links to your social media or performance recordings, indicate your availability on August 6 and/or August 7, and note preferred time slot and location. Applicants will be identified and vetted through the project platform''s talent review process, and selected musicians will be notified with next steps, including confirmation of location, apparel, and the recording release.
