About this role

Role Overview

Plant Performance Engineers apply hands-on experience in industrial operations, plant performance, and energy asset management to create expert-level training data and evaluate AI-generated content for technical accuracy and operational relevance. You will review AI responses, annotate errors or gaps, and provide detailed feedback that helps AI systems better represent real-world operations workflows and performance engineering practices. This is project-based, part-time, remote contract work that can be done alongside other commitments. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use your operational and engineering experience to produce and validate expert training examples for AI systems.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for accuracy, relevance, and safety relative to plant operations and performance engineering.
  • Provide written feedback, annotations, and corrections that clarify workflows, metrics, and best practices.
  • Document edge cases, realistic scenarios, and common failure modes from your field experience.
  • Work asynchronously with AI research teams, completing assigned review tasks independently and on schedule.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in industrial operations, plant performance, or energy asset management.
  • Typical roles that meet this requirement include Plant Performance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, SCADA Engineer, Drilling Engineer, Production Engineer, Generation Asset Analyst, or equivalent energy industry positions.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following tools: AVEVA PI, WinCC, Oracle MDM, Power BI, Bloomberg Terminal.
  • Strong written communication skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with remote teams.
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience is required, only domain expertise and practical familiarity with the tools and workflows you use daily.
Work Terms
  • Location: Remote only.
  • Employment type: Part-time, hourly contract work as an independent contractor.
  • Schedule: Flexible, asynchronous work, with no minimum hour requirement.
  • Typical commitment when engaged on an active project is approximately 5 to 20 hours per week.
  • Project placement is based on current project needs. Contributors may be considered for future projects as new opportunities arise.
Compensation

Up to $85/hr (depending on the project)
