About this role

Role Overview

Shape physician and patient research instruments used in healthcare and pharmaceutical studies, applying rigorous survey methodology alongside clinical and market-research insight. Initial work will focus on prostate cancer, ulcerative colitis, and migraine, with COPD and additional disease areas expected over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, review, and improve physician and patient survey instruments for healthcare and pharmaceutical research.
  • Turn research objectives into clear, methodologically sound questionnaires.
  • Evaluate screeners, eligibility criteria, question wording, response scales, survey flow, branching and skip logic, and overall instrument structure.
  • Identify leading, ambiguous, overly technical, or otherwise ineffective questions.
  • Ensure surveys are suitable for physician, specialist, primary care physician, and patient audiences.
  • Assess survey length, respondent burden, ordering effects, recall requirements, measurement bias, and whether questions will produce reliable, interpretable, decision-useful data.
  • Apply pharmaceutical and healthcare market-research conventions to instrument design.
  • Collaborate with therapeutic-area specialists to confirm clinical accuracy and appropriate framing.
  • When qualified, independently assess both survey methodology and therapeutic-area content.
  • Provide clear written rationale and actionable recommendations for improving surveys.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life-sciences, or medically focused research.
  • Strong questionnaire-design and survey-methodology expertise, with experience designing, programming, fielding, reviewing, or advising on surveys involving physicians, patients, healthcare professionals, or other healthcare stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical research and therapeutic areas is strongly valued.
  • Understanding of physician research considerations, including specialty screening, patient-volume qualification, treatment behavior, prescribing patterns, treatment pathways, and clinical terminology.
  • Experience with patient research, including diagnosis history, treatment experience, symptoms, quality of life, adherence, and patient journey research, is valuable.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical market research, commercial insights, medical affairs research, healthcare consumer insights, healthcare consulting, medical communications, life-sciences analytics, or related fields is relevant.
  • Experience with Qualtrics, Decipher or Forsta, Alchemer, SurveyMonkey, or similar tools is helpful but not required.
  • Excellent written reasoning and the ability to give precise methodological feedback.

Therapeutic-Area Experience

  • Immediate interest includes oncology, particularly prostate cancer; gastroenterology, particularly ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease; neurology, particularly migraine and headache disorders; and pulmonology or respiratory medicine, particularly COPD.
  • Additional pharmaceutical therapeutic-area expertise is welcome as future surveys may cover other indications.

Work Terms

  • Remote, hourly engagement.
  • Professionals who can evaluate both survey rigor and clinical assumptions, terminology, treatment pathways, and question relevance are especially well suited to the work.
  • Exceptional healthcare survey-methodology specialists are encouraged to apply even without therapeutic-area specialization; they may collaborate with a dedicated therapeutic-area expert.

Compensation

  • $140 per hour.
