Role Overview
Estimators apply hands-on energy project estimation, construction planning, and solar design experience to evaluate AI-generated outputs and produce expert-level training data that improves how AI understands project development workflows and cost estimation practices.
Key Responsibilities- Review and assess AI-generated content for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with real-world estimation and construction practices.
- Use practical experience with energy project estimation and solar design to create annotated examples and training data for AI models.
- Provide detailed, actionable feedback to research teams to help refine model outputs related to scope, quantities, pricing assumptions, scheduling, and constructability.
- Apply knowledge of common tools and workflows used in pre-construction and design to evaluate model responses against typical industry processes.
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience in energy project estimation, pre-construction, or solar design.
- Relevant roles include Estimator, Project Engineer, Pre-construction Manager, Solar Design Engineer, or equivalent positions in the energy industry.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following tools: Bluebeam Revu, RSMeans, Aurora Solar.
- Strong written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with research teams.
- Engagement type: part-time, hourly contract work.
- Location: fully remote.
- Schedule: flexible, asynchronous; there is no minimum hour requirement.
- Typical participation: most contributors work approximately 5-20 hours per week when assigned to an active project.
- Project availability: placement is based on current project needs; contributors may be considered for future projects as new needs arise.
- Pay: Up to $85/hr (depending on the project), paid on an hourly basis.
- This role is a contract engagement; candidates must be able to work as independent contractors under remote, hourly terms.
- Create a contributor profile and complete the required identity verification.
- Apply or indicate interest in relevant estimator projects and complete any project-specific onboarding steps.
- When selected for a project, begin assigned tasks and submit feedback and training data to earn compensation.
