About this role

Role Overview

Engineering experts specializing in hardware engineering apply technical knowledge to create and evaluate domain-specific prompts and to assess large language model outputs for technical accuracy, clarity, and usefulness in engineering contexts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop domain-specific prompts and tasks for large language models focused on hardware and engineering topics.
  • Evaluate and rate LLM responses for correctness, completeness, and applicability to real engineering problems.
  • Research technical topics and edge cases in your specialty area, using AI tools as an aid to inform evaluations.
  • Contribute to iterative improvement of model behavior by documenting common failure modes and suggesting refinements.
  • Allocate time to learn new skills and contribute to AI work across related engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Junior, senior, or graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following specialties: Industrial engineering, Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, Materials engineering.
  • Must be currently enrolled at, or have graduated from, a top 20 undergraduate institution.
  • Comfortable working primarily asynchronously in collaboration with AI research teams.
  • Confident that your subject-matter expertise can exceed current AI performance in explaining and reasoning about key engineering concepts.
Work Terms
  • Remote, asynchronous role, work independently from any location.
  • Part time, with a commitment of approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling.
  • The program runs year-round, however project availability varies by domain and placement into a project depends on current project openings.
Compensation
  • Up to $50/hr (depending on the project)
Eligibility
  • Open to U.S.-based doctoral students, doctoral candidates, and recent graduates who have valid work or training authorization, for example F-1 with OPT, J-1, or H-1B.
  • Applicants are responsible for confirming their visa or training authorization status and ensuring compliance with any sponsor or program requirements before applying.
  • At this time, candidates on STEM OPT who require a new Form i-983 sponsorship cannot be accommodated. Applicants who already have an approved i-983, and those on pre-graduation OPT, CPT, J-1, or H-1B, are not impacted by this restriction. These conditions may change in the future.
Application Process
  • Create a candidate profile and complete any required account setup.
  • Complete identity verification and provide requested eligibility documentation.
  • Select and onboard into projects that match your engineering specialty and availability.
  • Begin assigned work for active projects and receive compensation according to project terms.
