Apply hands-on chemistry or materials science expertise to help improve AI systems used in scientific and technical workflows. This remote contractor opportunity focuses on sharing data-rich, real-world experience with AI coding agents in complex scientific initiatives.
Role OverviewYour domain knowledge will inform training data, evaluations, feedback loops, and other materials that help AI systems learn, reason, and perform in chemistry and materials science contexts. Prior AI experience is not required, but experience using AI coding agents in technical workflows is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive, data-rich insights drawn from chemistry or materials science work where AI coding agents played an integral role.
- Document real-world uses of AI agents for navigating large codebases, debugging difficult issues, developing features, and making architectural changes.
- Write detailed accounts of technical methods, challenges, problem-solving approaches, and the effect of AI tools on scientific work.
- Participate in feedback sessions and communicate methodologies through written and verbal collaboration.
- Assess the effectiveness and limitations of AI agents in technical workflows and recommend improvements for STEM applications.
- Contribute chemistry and materials science expertise to datasets and training materials reflecting authentic practice with AI code-generation tools.
- Identify case studies and complex challenges where AI coding agents improved productivity or enabled new scientific outcomes.
- Expertise in chemistry and materials science, with strong scientific problem-solving, analytical thinking, critical thinking, written communication, verbal communication, and remote collaboration skills.
- An advanced degree, or equivalent professional experience, in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related STEM field.
- Proficiency using Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork to generate code sequences in scientific environments.
- Experience applying AI agents beyond chat or basic code assistance, including debugging intricate problems, building end-to-end features, and addressing ambiguous scientific challenges.
- Experience working with large or complex codebases in computational chemistry, materials modeling, or laboratory automation.
- Ability to clearly explain how AI agents were used in technical workflows, including technical challenges and problem-solving strategies.
- Remote independent contractor engagement.
