Role Overview

Cost estimators apply construction cost estimating expertise to evaluate outputs from AI models, judge content related to estimating work, and provide clear, structured feedback that improves model performance in real-world estimating tasks. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated responses and content related to construction cost estimating.
  • Develop prompts and realistic scenarios that reflect common estimating tasks, inputs, and terminology in your field.
  • Provide concise, structured feedback that clarifies correct approaches, common errors, and domain-specific language.
  • Assess model outputs for accuracy, completeness, and applicability to real estimating workflows.
  • Work asynchronously and independently to meet project-specific deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience as a cost estimator in the construction sector.
  • Ability to perform asynchronous work and collaborate with research teams or labs through written feedback and evaluations.
Work Terms
  • Remote, part-time, temporary, hourly research engagements.
  • Asynchronous work you can complete independently from any location.
  • Flexible schedule with no minimum guaranteed hours; most contributors average 5 to 20 hours per week.
  • Placement depends on project availability; the program runs year-round and new projects open periodically across different specialties.
  • Typical tasks include crafting prompts for models and evaluating model responses against professional standards.
Compensation

Up to $75/hr (depending on the project)

Eligibility
  • F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be able to participate, subject to your school policies. Work with your Designated School Official to confirm whether a given project meets CPT or OPT requirements.
  • If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this program may not fulfill that requirement.
  • STEM OPT is not supported for this program.
