About this role

Role Overview

Transform polyphonic music recordings into precise, structured scores that support AI training. This role focuses on reconstructing complete musical performances from mixed audio, including separating simultaneous soprano, alto, tenor, and bass parts from mono recordings and producing accurate MusicXML output. It is not a general audio-production or speech-transcription role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe polyphonic musical recordings into structured notation.
  • Identify and distinguish soprano, alto, tenor, and bass lines within mono mixes.
  • Determine pitches, onsets, durations, rests, re-articulations, rhythmic quantization, key signatures, accidentals, and enharmonic spellings.
  • Create or modify MusicXML scores.
  • Use Python to inspect audio, analyze spectral information, and automate portions of the transcription workflow.
  • Validate completed transcriptions through musical review, structured checks, or resynthesis.

Qualifications

  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Advanced ear training and polyphonic music-transcription ability.
  • Strong knowledge of harmony, rhythm, voice leading, and standard music notation.
  • Experience with SATB music, choral arranging, score preparation, or a closely related polyphonic-transcription discipline.
  • MusicXML expertise is required.
  • Relevant experience may include librosa, NumPy, SciPy, music21, Essentia, pretty_midi, MuseScore, or similar audio-analysis and notation tools. No specific tool is required when experience is transferable.
  • Formal education and a specific number of professional years are not required. Performers, arrangers, composers, choir musicians, researchers, and independent transcription specialists with demonstrable relevant skills are encouraged to apply.

Work Terms

  • Global, fully remote independent-contractor engagement.
  • Approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule, with choice of working days and hours, including weekends if desired.
  • Work is paid per completed task that meets project specifications; time per task varies by experience and workflow.
  • Minimum submission requirements apply, including a minimum number of tasks each week.

Compensation

$50 to $100 per hour.

Application Process

  • Submit an application and complete screening questions.
  • Complete an approximately 30-minute AI interview.
  • Proceed to hiring-manager review.
