Role Overview
Build and operate the PostgreSQL foundation behind mission-critical, cloud-native systems. This remote, full-time role focuses on database reliability, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance for large-scale, high-traffic environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage resilient, highly available PostgreSQL architectures using AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Improve database performance through query-plan analysis, index tuning, and advanced partitioning strategies.
- Maintain disaster-recovery readiness with dependable backup, replication, and failover processes.
- Investigate and resolve slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and complex bottlenecks affecting large-scale databases.
- Automate routine maintenance and strengthen operational practices across database environments.
- Partner with cross-functional teams on feature launches, data migrations, and application scaling.
- Maintain thorough documentation and communicate clearly in writing and conversation.
Qualifications
- 5+ years managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases in production.
- Expert knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication.
- Hands-on AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL experience, including backup, recovery, and high-availability design.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting skills for slow queries, execution plans, locks, and deadlocks.
- Experience supporting large-scale, high-traffic databases with millions of rows.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team, with proactive written and verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data platforms, analytics workloads, ETL processes, and operational databases.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native service environments.
- Exposure to modern data architectures and advanced monitoring tools.
Work Terms
- Full-time, remote position.
Compensation
- Listed compensation: $220, 000 to $260, 000 per year.
- A compensation notice lists a national base-salary range of $120, 000 to $150, 000.
- Employees are eligible for equity compensation and may receive performance-based bonuses, depending on role and company policy.
