About this role

Role Overview

Annotate and validate clinical documentation to produce high-quality ICD-10 and CPT coding data that will be used to train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. This contractor role focuses on accurate code assignment, Evaluation and Management leveling, and providing domain expertise to improve dataset quality and model understanding. No prior AI experience is required, your medical coding knowledge is the primary qualification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Annotate and review medical records, assigning ICD-10 and CPT codes based on clinical documentation.
  • Apply Evaluation and Management leveling using official E&M guidelines to validate and enrich datasets.
  • Use current coding reference materials to ensure compliance with up-to-date coding standards.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders through written and verbal communication to clarify requirements and resolve ambiguities in clinical documentation.
  • Provide detailed feedback on coding guidelines and edge cases to improve project workflows and model performance.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to the creation, validation, and quality assurance of medical-code datasets for AI training purposes.
Qualifications
  • Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder, CPC certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems and E&M leveling guidelines.
  • Experience with diverse clinical documentation types and the coding challenges they present.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to clarity and detail.
  • Access to up-to-date official ICD-10 and CPT coding books and current E&M guidelines.
  • Familiarity with digital annotation tools or prior participation in data-driven projects is a plus.
  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous learning in a fast-evolving healthcare and technology environment.

Compensation
  • Pay rate: $55 - $68 per hour.
Eligibility
  • Candidates must hold the required CPC certification and have access to current ICD-10, CPT, and E&M reference materials.
  • Must be able to work as an independent contractor in the engagement model described.
