Explosives and Energetic Materials Expert for AI Red-Teaming

Role Overview

Help assess how advanced AI systems handle technical questions involving explosives and energetic materials. This writing-intensive role tests whether models can support legitimate professional inquiries while recognizing and refusing requests with genuine misuse potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Create challenging, single-turn domain prompts categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.
• Evaluate model responses against an established policy standard and determine whether each response was handled appropriately.
• Develop reference answers that define the correct response and explain the supporting technical reasoning.
• Provide clear written rationales that non-specialists can understand.

Qualifications

Both of the following expertise profiles are needed: specialty-materials chemists, and engineers or operators with initiation and propulsion-system experience. Relevant backgrounds may include hazardous device specialists or public safety professionals with render-safe and device-assessment experience; specialty materials chemists specializing in pyrotechnics or propulsion formulation, synthesis, and performance testing; federal-certified materials specialists or incident analysts with forensic identification and scene-analysis experience; propulsion and effects engineers with munitions or propulsion-system design experience; and commercial blasting engineers with materials handling, storage, and transport experience.

• Prior AI evaluation or red-teaming experience is preferred.
• Technical writing, incident or post-blast reporting, published research, or expert-witness experience is strongly valued.

Work Terms

• Remote, per-task engagement.
• The work involves sustained reading and writing about potential misuse scenarios in this field. Experts are briefed in advance and may pause or step away at any time without penalty.

Compensation

Compensation is 65 to 75 per task.
