About this role

Role Overview

Apply commercial blasting expertise to help evaluate how frontier AI models handle technical questions involving energetic materials and propulsion. You will help distinguish legitimate professional requests from potentially dangerous misuse scenarios, ensuring models can answer routine questions appropriately while refusing unsafe ones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create challenging single-turn domain prompts categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.
  • Evaluate model responses against an established policy standard and determine whether each response was handled correctly.
  • Develop reference answers that show the appropriate response and explain the underlying technical reasoning.
  • Write clear rationales that non-specialists can understand.

Qualifications

  • Licensed blaster or blasting engineer with experience in mining, quarrying, construction, or demolition.
  • Experience with blast design and vibration control, including timing, burden, seismograph monitoring, and regulatory limits.
  • Experience managing magazines, reconciling inventory, or transporting specialty materials.
  • Knowledge of storage compatibility, security, and regulatory compliance for commercial licensees.
  • Experience training, certifying, or auditing blasting crews is relevant.
  • Red-teaming experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical writing ability, published research, or expert witness experience is valuable. Include a writing sample or link with your application.

Work Terms

  • Remote, per-task engagement.
  • The work involves sustained reading and writing about misuse scenarios in this field. You will be briefed in advance and may pause or step away at any time without penalty.

Compensation

Compensation is 65 to 75 per task.

Eligibility

Do not use or draw on classified information, export-controlled information, material covered by an NDA, or information subject to prepublication review. Candidates with such obligations may still be eligible if they disclose them in their application so the work can be scoped appropriately.
