About this role

Role Overview

Create realistic construction and property evaluation tasks based on real drawing sets, documents, and site photos. You will produce the structured review deliverables used in permit review work, such as correction letters, review decisions, and marked-up plans, then support a discipline-specific quality review before tasks are finalized.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop tasks based on building plans examination, code consultant reviews, and third-party or private-provider plan reviews.
  • Review accessibility and ICC A117.1 compliance, energy-code drawings, occupancy classifications, storefront change-of-use proposals, zoning site plans, permit-intake completeness, as-built versus permitted deviations, and specialty occupancies including healthcare facilities, schools, food service sites, and public pools.
  • Author both the task and its correct answer using real-world permit review standards.
  • Mark up and measure plan sets using Bluebeam Revu or an equivalent tool.
Qualifications
  • Currently hold, or have recently held, a permit-drawing review role as a building department plans examiner, third-party or private-provider plan reviewer, or code consultant.
  • Hold ICC Building Plans Examiner certification, B1, B2, or B3, or have current or recent AHJ or third-party plan review experience.
  • Have at least 3 years of relevant experience reviewing plans in U.S. model-code jurisdictions, including IBC, IEBC, IECC, and ICC A117.1. Eight or more years is preferred.
  • No degree is required.
  • Strong candidates have trained junior examiners, maintained correction templates or comment libraries, performed quality assurance on other reviewers'' work, or worked across multiple code editions and jurisdictions.
Eligibility

This role is for U.S.-based candidates with experience in U.S. model-code jurisdictions. It is not intended for general contractors or superintendents without plan-review responsibility, estimators, CAD drafters, or permit expediters who submit applications but do not perform plan reviews.

Work Terms

Remote, U.S.-based, hourly engagement.

Compensation

Pay is $45 to $60 per hour, based on experience, with an opportunity to increase the rate as the project grows.

What to prepare before applying

  1. ICC Building Plans Examiner certification (B1, B2, or B3), or current/recent employment performing AHJ or third-party plan review.
  2. US based.
  3. Currently hold or recently held a permit drawing-set review role for code compliance, such as a building department plans examiner, third-party/private provider plan reviewer, or code consultant.
  4. 3 or more years of plans-examiner or plan-review experience.
