About this role

Role Overview

Thermal Plant Performance and Emissions Analysts apply hands-on experience in plant performance analysis, emissions monitoring, and greenhouse gas reporting to evaluate AI-generated content and produce expert analytical outputs that improve AI understanding of thermal power generation workflows and emissions compliance practices. This engagement is project-based and can be performed alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated content related to thermal power plants, emissions monitoring, and GHG reporting, providing detailed feedback to improve accuracy and real-world applicability.
  • Independently produce expert-level analytical work and data outputs using the tools and workflows you use professionally.
  • Complete real operational tasks in a structured project format, for example building price forecast models or developing PPA documentation as requested by specific projects.
  • Perform technical workflows such as Heat Rate Efficiency Analysis and Power Plant Heat Rate Performance Analysis.
  • Prepare or evaluate EPA Continuous Emissions Monitoring reports and GHG emissions inventories and annual reporting materials.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in thermal power plant performance or emissions compliance in roles such as Plant Performance Engineer, Thermal Performance or Heat Rate Engineer, Air Quality or Emissions Compliance Specialist, GHG or Sustainability Reporting Analyst, or equivalent energy industry positions.
  • Bachelor''s degree or higher required.
  • Ability to independently complete work using one or more relevant tools, for example AVEVA PI and ArcGIS.
  • Proven ability to perform the listed workflows: Heat Rate analyses, EPA Continuous Emissions Monitoring Report tasks, and GHG Emissions Inventory and Annual Reporting.
  • Strong written communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and asynchronously.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type: hourly contract work, part-time and project-based.
  • Fully remote, flexible asynchronous schedule with no minimum hour requirement.
  • Typical participation when working on an active project is approximately 5 to 20 hours per week, though hours vary by project.
  • Placement on projects depends on current project needs; contributors may be considered for future projects as they become available.
Compensation

Up to $80/hr (depending on the project)

Eligibility and Work Authorization
  • F-1 students may be eligible if they qualify for CPT or OPT; consult your Designated School Official to confirm eligibility.
  • If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course to authorize work, this project model may not meet that requirement.
  • STEM OPT is not supported for this engagement.
