About this role
Help build high-quality training data for document AI by creating structural annotations and exact Telugu-script transcriptions from real public PDF pages. The work focuses on difficult document formats, including handwriting, multi-column layouts, tables, diagrams, and mixed-script pages, drawn from sources such as newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets.
Key Responsibilities- Find publicly accessible Telugu PDFs in assigned document types that include at least one image, table, diagram, or handwritten element, and record the source.
- Identify, bound, and classify every meaningful page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
- Assign reading-order indexes that accurately reflect how the page is read, including multi-column layouts.
- Link related regions to their associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
- Transcribe all text exactly as shown in Telugu script, including handwritten content, and flag illegible regions.
- Capture page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and indicators for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
- Review a colleague''s work end to end when serving as an experienced annotator.
- Native Telugu fluency, with full command of Telugu script, orthography, diacritics, and conjunct forms.
- All annotation and transcription work is completed in Telugu.
- Experience with document-focused work such as annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
- Exceptional character-level accuracy and a systematic approach to applying a consistent taxonomy across many pages.
- Comfort working with unfamiliar layouts, including multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms.
- Regional-language AI data work, including annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for training datasets.
- Transcription or localization work such as MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.
- Telugu document production, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.
- Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Telugu input methods, and accurate numeral and character forms.
- Remote, open only to contributors based in India, the United States, Canada, or Western Europe.
- Hourly engagement.
- Quality is the primary measure of performance, with handling time also tracked.
- $12.68 per hour.
- Every meaningful page region is captured, correctly bounded, and correctly typed.
- Reading order matches the document''s actual flow.
- Transcriptions match the source character for character in Telugu script, without transliteration.
- Work passes second-expert review on the first submission.
- Sourced documents add meaningful layout diversity to the dataset.
