Odia PDF Annotation and Transcription Expert

Role Overview

Help build human-authored training data that improves document AI for Odia and other underrepresented scripts. You will create a complete structural map and faithful Odia-script transcription for real, publicly available PDF pages, including challenging material such as handwriting, dense multi-column layouts, tables, diagrams, and mixed-script documents.

Documents may include newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets. All annotation and transcription work is completed in Odia by human experts, not generated by parsing models.

Key Responsibilities

• Find publicly accessible Odia PDFs in assigned document categories that include at least one multimodal element, such as an image, table, diagram, or handwriting, and document the source.
• Identify, bound, classify, and assign reading-order indexes to every meaningful page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
• Link regions to their associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
• Transcribe all text exactly as shown in Odia script, including handwritten text, and flag any illegible content.
• Record page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and whether tables, formulas, or handwriting are present.
• Review another Odia expert''s work end to end when assigned as an experienced annotator.

Qualifications

• Native fluency in Odia, also known as Oriya, with full command of Odia script, orthography, diacritics, and conjunct forms.
• Experience working with documents through annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
• Exceptional character-level accuracy, including careful handling of diacritics.
• A systematic approach to consistently applying a taxonomy across hundreds of pages.
• Comfort working with unfamiliar formats such as multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms.

Preferred Experience

• AI-data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for regional-language training datasets.
• MTPE, subtitling, bilingual quality assurance, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Odia-language typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.
• Unicode normalization, Odia input methods, and precise numeral and character-form handling.

Quality Expectations

• Capture, correctly bound, and correctly classify every meaningful page region.
• Reflect the real reading order, including content spanning multiple columns.
• Produce character-for-character Odia-script transcriptions, not transliterations.
• Deliver work that passes second-expert review on the first submission.
• Contribute documents that increase layout diversity rather than repeat existing templates.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly independent contractor engagement.
• Accuracy is the primary quality measure, with handling time also tracked.

Compensation

$12.68 per hour.
