About this role

Role Overview

Subsurface and reservoir engineers apply hands-on reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and reserves reporting expertise to evaluate AI-generated subsurface outputs and provide detailed feedback that improves AI understanding of subsurface workflows and reservoir engineering practices. This is an ongoing, project-based, hourly contract role performed fully remotely and suitable to combine with research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use your professional experience in reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and reserves reporting to evaluate AI-generated content and identify errors, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Independently produce expert-level analytical work and structured data outputs using the tools and workflows from your professional practice.
  • Complete real work tasks in a project format, for example building price forecast models or developing PPA documentation, and document methods and assumptions.
  • Provide clear, written feedback and guidance that helps refine AI outputs to align with standard subsurface and reservoir engineering practices.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in subsurface engineering, reservoir analysis, or production operations.
  • Relevant roles include Reservoir Engineer or Reservoir Modeler / Petrophysicist, Reserves Engineer (SEC reporting), Petroleum Production / Well Test Engineer, Production Allocation Analyst, or equivalent energy industry positions.
  • Proven ability to independently produce work using one or more of the following tools: Techlog, Avocet, Petrel, ARIES.
  • Experience completing workflows such as reservoir simulation and production forecasting, SEC oil and gas reserves reporting, well test analysis and interpretation, and production allocation calculations across working interest owners.
  • Bachelor''s degree or higher required.
  • Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously.
Work Terms
  • Location: Fully remote.
  • Employment type: Part time, hourly contract work; contributors operate as independent contractors.
  • Schedule: Flexible, asynchronous schedule with no minimum hour requirement; when active on a project most contributors work approximately 5 to 20 hours per week.
Compensation

Up to $80/hr (depending on the project)

  • F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible to participate; consult your Designated School Official to confirm eligibility.
  • If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this program may not meet that requirement.
  • STEM OPT is not supported.

Project Availability

Placement on specific projects depends on current project needs. Candidates may be considered for future projects as they become available.
