About this role

Role Overview

STEM PhDs apply their domain expertise to design tasks and evaluate Large Language Model outputs across scientific and technical domains. In this part-time, remote role you will create domain-specific prompts, assess model responses, and help improve AI behavior in areas such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Engineering. Project assignments vary by discipline and open periodically throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop domain-specific prompts and structured task instructions for LLM evaluation.
  • Evaluate and score LLM responses against clear criteria, identifying errors and areas for improvement.
  • Research and summarize relevant technical material to inform task design and evaluation.
  • Document evaluation criteria and recommendations in clear, structured written form.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with project teams and follow project-specific guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Current doctoral students, recent PhD graduates, or postdoctoral researchers in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Engineering.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex research knowledge into clear instructions and evaluation rubrics.
  • Confidence that your subject-matter expertise exceeds current AI systems in explaining and reasoning about core concepts in your field.
  • Willingness to learn new skills while contributing to AI research and evaluation across diverse scientific disciplines.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type: Independent contractor, not a full-time employee.
  • Location: Fully remote; work asynchronously from within the EU or United Kingdom.
  • Schedule: Flexible and asynchronous. Typical commitment when assigned to an active project is approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, though there is no strict minimum requirement. Contributors commonly work in the range of about 5 to 20 hours per week depending on project needs.
  • Project availability: The program operates year-round but project openings vary by discipline. Placement into a project depends on current project needs, and contributors may be considered for future projects as they become available.
Compensation
  • Pay rate: Up to $48/hr (depending on the project).
  • Hourly pay varies by project and task complexity.
Eligibility and Work Authorization
  • Applicants must reside in the EU or United Kingdom.
  • F-1 students with valid CPT or OPT authorization may be eligible to participate; consult your Designated School Official to confirm whether participation meets your school’s CPT requirements. If your school requires a specific CPT course, this remote program may not qualify.
  • STEM OPT authorization is not supported for participation.
