STEM PhD

STEM PhDs apply their research expertise to evaluate and improve large language models in specialized scientific and technical domains. This role involves crafting domain-specific prompts, assessing model outputs, and guiding model behavior with precise task instructions drawn from doctoral-level knowledge. Candidates must reside in the European Union or the United Kingdom and will work remotely.

• Develop and refine domain-specific prompts and tasks to test and improve model performance in your field.
• Evaluate and annotate LLM responses for accuracy, clarity, and usefulness against well-defined criteria.
• Translate complex research knowledge into clear, structured instructions and evaluation rubrics.
• Conduct independent literature or topic research, using AI tools as an aid, to inform prompt design and evaluation.
• Learn and adopt new skills relevant to AI evaluation while contributing expertise across projects.
• Participate in projects as they become available, with placement depending on current project needs in different disciplines.

• Doctoral students or graduates, including current PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Engineering.
• Strong written communication skills, able to convert advanced concepts into concise task instructions and objective evaluation criteria.
• Demonstrated domain expertise that exceeds current AI systems in understanding and explaining key concepts in your field.

• Engagement type, independent contractor, not a full-time employee.
• Location, fully remote work from the EU or UK.
• Schedule, flexible and asynchronous. The role typically requires approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, although there is no formal minimum. Many contributors work about 5 to 20 hours per week while assigned to active projects.
• Duration and availability, the program runs year-round and projects open periodically by discipline. Placement on a project depends on current needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they arise.

• Up to $48/hr (depending on the project)

• Residency requirement, must be residing in the EU or the UK.
• U.S. F-1 students, if located abroad or otherwise, should note that CPT or OPT may allow participation when eligible, but you must confirm with your Designated School Official whether this work meets your institution''s CPT requirements. If your school requires a CPT course enrollment, this engagement may not satisfy that requirement.
