Role Overview
Apply your Department of Defense staff-writing expertise to help train next-generation AI systems through high-quality, real-world documentation, evaluations, and feedback. Your work will help shape how models learn, reason, summarize, report, and perform across federal operational and administrative scenarios. Prior AI experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop structured prompts, input artifacts, and exemplar responses for DoD staff-writing tasks, including Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, and performance reports.
- Create grading guidelines and rubrics to assess AI-generated content against DoD expectations for accuracy, tone, compliance, and quality.
- Produce authentic report artifacts that reflect the style, structure, and language used in real-world DoD documentation.
- Design and review test materials that evaluate AI capabilities for summarization and reporting tasks commonly performed by federal personnel.
- Participate in feedback cycles to refine prompts, responses, and grading rubrics based on project needs and model performance.
- Use back-office and communications experience to model weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting formats familiar to federal organizations.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of relevant experience as a former federal contributor supporting the U.S. Department of Defense.
- Experience with military writing, federal documentation standards, report generation and evaluation, and grading-rubric development.
- Experience producing Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, performance reports, and comparable standard reporting formats.
- Background in one of the six U.S. military branches, with experience across different roles and units preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use language appropriate to the intended audience.
- Familiarity with back-office tools and processes, including PowerPoint briefings, memos, Excel summaries, and related documentation.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to provide constructive feedback on AI-generated staff-writing outputs.
- Knowledge of federal compliance, reporting requirements, DoD terminology, workflows, and collaborative remote-work practices.
Work Terms
- Independent contractor engagement.

Compensation
- $40 to $80 per hour.
