About this role
Role Overview
Own accurate, on-time employee payroll and vendor payments in a fully remote finance operations role. You will help ensure payments are processed correctly, internal controls are followed, and payroll and accounts payable records reconcile cleanly to the general ledger.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll across all pay cycles, including new hires, terminations, status changes, bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle runs.
- Calculate, reconcile, and remit payroll taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, and 401(k) contributions in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage the full accounts payable lifecycle, including invoice intake, general ledger coding, approval routing, and vendor payments by ACH, check, and wire.
- Perform three-way matching among invoices, purchase orders, and receipts, resolving discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain vendor records, collect W-9 forms, and prepare and file annual 1099s.
- Reconcile payroll and accounts payable subledgers to the general ledger; prepare journal entries and accruals for month-end close.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and payment terms to support cash flow and capture early-payment discounts.
- Administer employee expense reimbursements and corporate card programs in accordance with policy.
- Respond to employee payroll and vendor payment inquiries accurately, professionally, and discreetly.
- Support internal and external audits with schedules, documentation, and reconciliations.
- Maintain and strengthen payroll and accounts payable controls, and identify automation opportunities as processes scale.
Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2 to 4 years of hands-on payroll and/or accounts payable experience.
- Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage-and-hour compliance.
- Understanding of accounts payable processes, general ledger coding, and accrual accounting fundamentals.
- Experience using a payroll platform and an ERP or accounting system.
- Strong Google Sheets and Excel skills.
- High accuracy, discretion with confidential payroll and financial information, and ability to manage recurring deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, fully remote startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- FPC or CPP certification, or progress toward a professional payroll or accounting certification.
- Multi-state payroll experience.
- Experience with 1099 reporting and monthly, quarterly, or year-end payroll tax reporting.
- Exposure to AI tools or automated accounting and payroll workflows.
Work Terms
- Full-time, remote position open to candidates located in the United States.
Compensation
- The source references compensation of $90, 000 to $130, 000 per year and a national base-salary range of $70, 000 to $90, 000 USD.
- Employees are eligible for equity compensation and may receive role-dependent performance bonuses.
