Environmental Scientist for AI Research

Environmental Science professionals apply their field expertise to evaluate and improve how AI systems understand and perform real-world environmental tasks and language, contributing to model prompts, outputs, and evaluation criteria across environmental subject matter.

• Use professional knowledge to design and refine industry-specific prompts for large language models and other AI systems.
• Evaluate and rate AI responses for accuracy, relevance, and safety within environmental science contexts.
• Provide detailed feedback and examples that help improve AI behavior on domain-specific tasks.
• Work independently on asynchronous tasks, completing assignments according to project timelines and quality guidelines.
• Participate in a range of projects across environmental disciplines as opportunities become available.

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following roles: Conservation Scientists; Environmental Scientists and Specialists, Including Health; Soil and Plant Scientists; Environmental Engineers; Geoscientists, Except Hydrologists and Geographers; Geological Technicians, Except Hydrologic Technicians.
• Comfort with primarily asynchronous work and the ability to collaborate remotely with AI research teams.
• Attention to detail, clear written communication, and the ability to translate professional practice into evaluative criteria for AI systems.

• Location: Remote, work from any location where you are authorized to work.
• Employment type: Part-time.
• Schedule: Asynchronous and flexible hours, there is no minimum weekly hour commitment.
• Project availability: Projects run year-round and open periodically across different areas of expertise, placement depends on current project availability.

Up to $100/hr (depending on the project)

• F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible to participate, but you must confirm eligibility with your Designated School Official.
• If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course or specific coursework to authorize CPT, this program may not meet those requirements.
• STEM OPT is not supported for participation.
