Clinical Transcription Reviewer

Role Overview

Review verbatim transcripts of real, de-identified clinical phone calls that serve as reference data for evaluating and improving speech-recognition systems. Transcribers create every transcript from scratch by listening to the audio, and your role is to ensure the finished work meets a rigorous quality standard. Accuracy is more important than speed.

Key Responsibilities

• Listen to each call and compare the audio with its transcript to determine whether it meets project standards.
• Approve transcripts or return them with specific timestamped corrections, including inline feedback and a brief summary.
• Verify complete coverage through the end of each call.
• Confirm the transcript accurately reflects what was said.
• Ensure verbatim fidelity, including filler words, false starts, stutters, repetitions, and short acknowledgements.
• Check that uncertain clinical terminology is flagged rather than guessed.
• Review turn-level timestamps, speaker labels, and required bracket tags for laughter, crosstalk, inaudible passages, and similar events.
• Help establish consistent review conventions during the project’s initial review phase.

Qualifications

• Experience reviewing, editing, proofreading, or quality-assuring others’ transcripts, with a strong performance record.
• Background in medical transcription, clinical documentation, medical scribing, closed captioning, or legal or court transcription.
• AHDI credentials such as CHDS, RHDS, or CMT are preferred but not required.
• Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to spot issues such as incorrect singular or plural usage, drug-name hyphenation errors, and timestamps that are off by a few seconds.
• Comfort working from detailed written specifications and applying formatting conventions consistently. Consistency across reviewers is a key quality requirement.
• Native or near-native English listening comprehension across a range of accents.
• A quiet workspace and over-ear headphones. Laptop speakers are not sufficient.

Work Terms

• Remote, hourly engagement.
• All transcription review must be completed by listening to the audio. Transcription tools and AI services may not be used at any stage.
• Audio is de-identified before review and must remain within the project’s designated tools under a strict data agreement.

Compensation

• $30 per hour.
