About this role

As a Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust server-side solutions for complex software projects. This position is ideal for an expert-level engineer who is passionate about clean code, well-architected systems, and effective collaboration across remote teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and optimize server-side logic and APIs using technologies such as Python, Node.js, .NET, C#, C++, PHP, and WordPress.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable web applications and software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain database structures, ensuring data integrity, security, and high performance.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and refactor existing code to enhance maintainability and reliability.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical documentation for both new and existing projects.
  • Implement testing strategies to ensure code quality and coverage for mission-critical applications.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies, sharing insights with the team.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in building complex back-end systems and web applications.
  • Expertise in Python, Node.js, .NET, C#, C++, PHP, or WordPress development.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, RESTful API design, and server architecture.
  • Proficiency in database management (SQL and NoSQL), data modeling, and optimization techniques.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on collaboration in distributed teams.
  • Solid knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills and attention to detail in code and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience contributing to open source projects or delivering solutions used at scale.
  • Background in DevOps, containerization, or automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Previous work on highly creative or unconventional software or website projects.
Work Terms:

This is a remote contract position.

Compensation:

Hourly rate ranges from $50 to $120.
