Role Overview
Nuclear Engineers apply their technical expertise to evaluate AI outputs, create domain-specific prompts, and provide clear, structured feedback that helps models understand nuclear engineering tasks, terminology, and safe-work practices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop prompts and scenarios that reflect real nuclear engineering problems and workflows.
- Review and evaluate AI model responses for accuracy, safety, and usefulness in nuclear engineering contexts.
- Deliver concise, structured feedback that identifies errors, gaps, and improvements in model outputs.
- Assess content related to design, operation, environmental compliance, fuel handling, and other nuclear engineering topics.
- Work asynchronously with AI research teams to refine model behavior based on domain expertise.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in nuclear engineering or closely related work.
- Relevant real-world responsibilities may include one or more of the following:
- Design or develop nuclear equipment, such as reactor cores, radiation shielding, or instrumentation and control mechanisms.
- Monitor nuclear facility operations to identify unsafe design, construction, or operational practices.
- Initiate corrective actions or order plant shutdowns in emergency situations.
- Examine accidents to gather data for preventive measures.
- Direct operating or maintenance activities at nuclear power plants to ensure efficiency and safety compliance.
- Design or oversee construction or operation of reactors, power plants, or fuel reprocessing systems.
- Lead environmental compliance activities related to nuclear plant operations or maintenance.
- Write operational instructions for plant operation, fuel handling, or waste disposal.
- Prepare technical reports synthesizing test results and recommendations.
- Prepare environmental impact statements, reports, or regulatory presentations.
- Develop plans for remediating environments affected by radiation, including waste disposal sites.
- Conduct tests of fuel behavior, reactor cycles, or equipment performance to optimize plant performance.
- Design fuel cycle models or processes to reduce radioactive waste generation.
- Consult with scientists to set experiment parameters or evaluate analytical models.
- Recommend preventive measures based on operations monitoring or test evaluation.
- Discuss construction proposals with vendors, contractors, or facility review boards.
- Perform experiments on material usage, fuel reclamation, or waste disposal methods.
- Conduct environmental studies related to power generation, waste disposal, or weapons deployment impacts.
- Design or direct research projects to develop, test, or modify theoretical models.
- Keep current with developments in the field through technical literature and independent study.
- Engagement type: hourly, temporary contract work, part-time, remote.
- Work is asynchronous and can be done independently from any location.
- Hours are flexible, there is no minimum commitment, and most contributors average 5 to 20 hours per week.
- Placement into specific projects depends on project availability; the program runs year-round and new opportunities open periodically across areas of expertise.
- Work involves creating prompts for AI models and evaluating their responses, while collaborating remotely with research teams.
Paid hourly, up to $80/hr (depending on the project).
Eligibility and Work Authorization- Open to applicants who meet the experience requirements and can legally accept contract work as described.
- F-1 students may be eligible if they have appropriate CPT or OPT authorization; consult your Designated School Official to confirm eligibility. If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this program may not meet that requirement.
