About this role

Role Overview

As an Underwriting Expert, you will play a critical role in advancing frontier agent evaluations in insurance underwriting by collaborating with leading AI labs. Your primary responsibility will be to create long-horizon underwriting tasks that reflect real-world scenarios, each accompanied by a deterministic rubric to evaluate agent performance against verifiable ground truth. The tasks will focus on providing checkable answers, avoiding open-ended questions or subjective judgments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Submission and Triage: Manage submission intake according to appetite rules, conduct risk classification, and prepare referral memos for senior underwriting based on defined thresholds.
  • Risk Assessment and Pricing: Perform exposure analysis with ground-truth calculations, prepare quotes in alignment with rating manuals, and handle surplus lines processing in accordance with state regulations.
  • Issuance and Brokerage: Prepare bind and issue documentation, and manage broker correspondence according to established playbook positions.

These scenarios will require intense focus and will be intellectually challenging.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial, specialty, or personal lines underwriting at a carrier, MGA, or wholesale broker.
  • Expertise in one or more specific lines of business, such as property, general liability, professional liability, workers'' compensation, cyber, or specialty.
  • Familiarity with rating and pricing manuals, surplus lines and E&S processing, and broker relationship management.
  • Experience with underwriting platforms such as Duck Creek, Guidewire, or other carrier systems.
  • Proficient in reading and producing underwriting artifacts, including submission packages, risk reports, quote letters, referral memos, and bind documentation.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to articulate reasoning clearly and encode it into deterministic rubrics.
  • Must be located in the United States.
