About this role
Apply advanced physics expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems through rigorous scientific problem solving, technical analysis, and clearly documented reasoning. This remote contract opportunity is designed for PhD-level physicists and advanced doctoral researchers who can translate complex physical concepts into precise, reproducible solutions. Prior AI experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities- Solve advanced physics problems within your area of specialization and provide rigorous derivations, analyses, and final results.
- Write technically precise solutions that clearly state assumptions, approximations, reasoning, and conclusions using LaTeX mathematical notation.
- Use SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for symbolic or numerical verification and for clear computational workflows when appropriate.
- Identify important subtleties in problem statements, including special cases, boundary conditions, dimensional consistency, and other factors that affect the solution.
- Flag ambiguous or underspecified project materials and provide well-reasoned interpretations or proposed clarifications.
- Revise submitted work in response to reviewer feedback and integrate corrections cleanly.
- Maintain research-quality standards for documentation, technical rigor, and reproducibility.
- Apply subject matter expertise and scientific reasoning to produce high-quality input used to train and evaluate advanced AI systems.
- PhD in physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy, with active research experience in a relevant physics subfield.
- Strong command of physics, advanced technical problem solving, mathematical and computational methods, and written scientific communication.
- Research expertise in one or more of the following areas: High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, including moiré systems, magnetism, and PXP or Rydberg systems, Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
- Approximately 2 to 5 recent representative publications from the past 5 years, with accessible arXiv or DOI records.
- Proficiency with LaTeX for mathematical presentation.
- Proficiency with SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for computational work, with willingness to identify areas where additional support may be useful.
- Demonstrated excellence in written technical communication, including producing scientific work that is clear, precise, and well reasoned.
- Strong analytical ability, including identifying the governing physical principles and developing nuanced solutions to complex problems.
- Remote contract engagement open worldwide.
- Typical workload is 10 to 15 or more hours per week.
- Hours are fully flexible and can accommodate evening or weekend work.
- Candidates should be able to participate consistently for approximately 8 to 10 weeks, at roughly 10 hours per week.
- Work is tied to a specific customer project, so the engagement and available work are project based.
Compensation ranges from $100 to $200 per hour.
Application ProcessCandidates apply through the online application flow using email or a supported account sign-in option. Proceeding with the application requires acknowledging the applicable candidate terms and privacy policy.
