About this role
Role Overview
Help evaluate how advanced AI systems handle sensitive nuclear nonproliferation questions. This remote, per-task role focuses on distinguishing legitimate technical and compliance requests from dual-use or adversarial requests that could enable misuse.
Key Responsibilities
- Create challenging single-turn prompts in nuclear materials, safeguards, and nonproliferation, labeling each as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.
- Assess model responses against an established policy standard and determine whether each response was handled appropriately.
- Develop reference answers that show the appropriate response and explain the underlying technical reasoning.
- Write clear rationales that non-specialists can understand while preserving the nuance needed to distinguish compliance questions from circumvention attempts.
Qualifications
- Professional experience in proliferation-related work, including export controls, treaty implementation, or program analysis.
- Ability to differentiate routine professional questions from requests seeking to evade controls or enable misuse.
- Relevant experience may include export-control licensing, classification, or enforcement; dual-use lists, catch-all controls, and end-user screening; implementation of the NPT, CTBT, safeguards agreements, or bilateral cooperation agreements; proliferation pathway and program analysis at a laboratory, agency, ministry, or research institute; sanctions, procurement-network, or illicit-trade analysis; or open-source and technical analysis of nuclear programs.
- Strong technical writing ability. Prior technical writing, published research, expert witness experience, or red-teaming experience is valued.
- Ability to engage with misuse scenarios in the field for sustained periods. You may pause or step away without penalty.
Work Terms
- Remote, per-task engagement.
- The work involves evaluating the boundary between legitimate assistance and dangerous misuse, including cases involving export controls, procurement, and proliferation pathways.
Compensation
- 65 to 75 per task.
Eligibility
- Do not use or rely on classified information, export-controlled information, material covered by an NDA, or material subject to prepublication review.
- Candidates with these obligations may still be considered if they disclose them so the work can be scoped appropriately.
Application Process
- Provide a technical writing sample or link to relevant published work, research, or expert-witness material.
- Disclose any classified-information, export-control, NDA, or prepublication-review obligations that may affect assignment scope.
What to prepare before applying
- Professional experience working on proliferation questions, such as export control, treaty implementation, or programme analysis
- Ability to distinguish routine compliance questions from circumvention questions and identify misuse potential
- Strong written communication skills, including writing rationales that non-specialists can follow
