About this role

Role Overview

Drilling Engineers apply hands-on drilling operations, well planning, and energy data systems expertise to evaluate AI-generated content and produce expert-level training data that improves AI understanding of drilling workflows and industry practices. This is a part-time, hourly contract engagement you can do remotely and alongside other work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use practical experience from drilling and completions workflows to review AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and relevance.
  • Create and annotate expert training data based on real-world drilling operations and well planning scenarios.
  • Provide detailed feedback that helps refine AI outputs on drilling procedures, data interpretation, and industry best practices.
  • Work independently with project teams in an asynchronous manner, following project-specific instructions and quality guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in drilling, completions, or related energy operations.
  • Relevant roles include, but are not limited to, Drilling Engineer, Completions Engineer, Well Cost Analyst, Drilling Superintendent, or equivalent positions in the energy industry.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more tools such as WellView, SAP, ComboCurve, or AVEVA PI.
  • Strong written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with AI research teams.
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience is required.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type: part-time, hourly contract work.
  • Location: fully remote.
  • Schedule: flexible, asynchronous; no minimum hour requirement.
  • Typical participation: most contributors work approximately 5-20 hours per week when engaged on an active project.
  • Placement is project-dependent; being accepted for one project does not guarantee immediate or continuous assignments, though contributors may be considered for future projects as needs arise.
Compensation
  • Up to $85/hr (depending on the project).
